Why Korean Food?

Since OMO Davao is a Filipino-owned Korean food business, many would ask, “Why Korean food?”, or “Who introduced you to the Korean cuisine?”.
Looking back, I was never fond of eating Korean food, spicy foods weren’t really my thing, and kimchi was a big NO for me. But all of these changed when I met my sister’s husband. Because of him, my family and I learned to love different Korean foods, learned to cook different recipes, and of course kimchi became a staple food at home.
How We Started The Korean Food Business
It all started in 2016 when my Korean brother in-law taught us how to make kimbap. It was just his way of introducing Korean cuisine little by little to our family. We fell in love with his recipe and tried to improve it even more. My sister came up with a unique sauce that goes perfectly with it, and made some for our closest friends. We received positive feedback from our closest friends so we thought of maybe selling kimbap to the public.
As a graduating student back then, I needed some funds for my thesis, and a small business was a perfect way to save up some money. Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I had a vacant time in between my classes, which was long enough for me to go back home and pick up the orders prepared by my sister, father and mother. I could still remember posting on twitter and facebook to plug my small business, and surprisingly, lots of students wanted to order. I could accept about 40 orders in a day before and would just meet them at our school cafeteria. It went on for about 3 months, just until I graduated. Thanks to the kimbap business, I was able to pay for all my thesis expenses, and even had extra money to spend on for my board exam review.
Five Years Later...
We started accepting orders again for our korean food business, and named it as OMO Davao Kimbap and Tteokbokki. We were able to build a cute kiosk located just in front of our house to cater customers. We added new korean food options in our menu such as tteokbokki, bibimbap, and rabokki. Just as before, all our products are made with quality and fresh ingredients only.
